Positive mention of the CASIB project office in German Federal Government's declaration

In September 2024, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz travelled to Kazakhstan as part of his trip to Central Asia to further deepen the already extensive partnership with the country. The joint final declaration emphasises the importance of cooperation in education and science between the two countries. The contribution of the CASIB project office, funded by the BMBF under CLIENT II, to research cooperation is emphasised.

With the words: “The parties welcome the work of the regional project office CASIB (Central Asia Sustainable Innovation Bureau) in Almaty, which is intended to facilitate the networking of research and the exchange of results“, the CASIB project office was positively emphasised in a joint declaration on cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Federal Republic of Germany.

The CASIB project office has been supporting research cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and Germany since 2019. CASIB is operated by the representative office of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Numerous demand-oriented research projects have been successfully implemented in the region through the CLIENT II funding measure. CASIB supports researchers in their search for project partners and in establishing contacts for research cooperation as well as in identifying stakeholders for the continuation and commercialisation of project results. CASIB also informs the BMBF/DLR-PT about developments in the region's science sector and supports the project management agency in the preparation, organisation and implementation of funding measures.

The office makes an important contribution to the visibility of German funding programmes such as CLIENT II and networking between the scientific landscapes. In spring 2025, CASIB will organise a Central Asia Forum in Halle (Saale), Germany, together with the BMBF in order to inform the German scientific community about the potential for cooperation with Central Asia.
