DUB-GEM: Prototype of a heavy-weight drone
The exhibit shows a heavy-duty drone with a mounted gamma spectrometer from the DUB-GEM project, presented at the CLIENT Conference 2024. This innovative technology enables the efficient and safe exploration and monitoring of former uranium mining sites, especially in hard-to-reach mountainous regions of Central Asia.
The drone can carry up to 7 kg of payload and is equipped with a highly sensitive scintillation detector that precisely measures ionising radiation and transmits the data to a ground station in real time. This allows radioactive contamination, defective covers and remediation needs to be quickly identified.
The project was completed in 2023 and makes an important contribution to protecting people and the environment from the risks posed by former uranium mining areas. For more information on DUB-GEM, visit the project page.
