Textile alternatives to cotton
Sachsen-Leinen e.V. is involved in three natural fibre projects in Central Asia. The projects focus on the development of fibres from hemp (KASHEMP), oilseed straw (LINOKAS) and the wild plant Kendyr (KendyrTEX) in arid regions using new cultivation, harvesting and digestion technologies.
The aim of the projects is not to fully replace cotton. Rather, the aim is to provide a valuable supplement for dry and thus increasingly unsuitable cotton growing regions and to develop new natural fibre raw materials as economic and sustainable blending partners for cotton.
A video about the three CLIENT II projects KASHEMP, LINOKAS and KendyrTEX can be found here.
