OrganoRice: First rice season under organic farming started in Vietnam
As part of the project OrganoRice, rice production under organic farming started in Vinh Long and An Giang provinces in the Mekong Delta in 2023. Initially, 3 hectares of farmland were converted in each province in order to school local farmers in organic farming. In addition, trials were started in Vinh Long to optimise organic fertilisation, organic pest control, and also variety trials were established.
From spring 2024 onwards, an expansion to 30 hectares in each of the two provinces, as well as in Dong Thap province, is planned.
At the same time, relevant stakeholders, such as farmers, traders, political decision-makers, have already been interviewed in order to determine the socio-economic framework conditions for a transition to organic farming.
