Lin4Future Team meets at Zhongcun Forest Farm in China

In August and September 2018, all partners involved in the Lin4Future project met for a joint Sino-German team meeting. They included a researcher and a forestry expert from the Chair of Forest Growth of the University of Freiburg, a software developer from GISCON Systems, forest scientists from the Chinese Academy of Forestry, and the director and staff from the Zhongtiaoshan State-Owned Forest Bureau.

During the meeting, they collected all the required stem discs at pre-defined stem heights from all 216 sample trees, and the last discs are now waiting in their storage rooms to be sanded. During the team meeting, they team also tackled the next task of measuring the radial growth of each stem disc. The measuring software WinDENDRO from Regent Instruments Canada Inc. was introduced to our Chinese project partners and during a five-day-workshop, their workers became familiar with all the characteristics of the eight tree species being investigated as part of the project.

In addition, the team set up all the infrastructure needed for the project, with the data-server for storing all the forest inventory data and the forest planning software from GISCON Systems now up and running. Data coming from the current forest inventory needs to be entered in the coming months, so that the planning software can work properly in the future when the tree species specific growth models are developed.
