KendyrTEX: Project visit in Almaty
In addition to presenting the project activities in the field of fiber and textile production, the Almaty Technological University (ATU) used the visit to present its research priorities and teaching and research equipment.
The Kazakh National University (KazNU) was another partner university on the program. At the meeting with the Chair of Biodiversity and Bioresources, the KendyrTEX project activities in the field of cultivation and environmental monitoring were discussed.
The project staff see the cultivation of Kendyr (Apocynum venetum) as having great potential for adapting to climate change in the region. In addition, test results show that the plant can be cultivated on heavily salinated areas, thus opening up new potential for agricultural use and opportunities to improve the environmental situation on the Aral Sea.
