BioProLat: project meeting, field trip and workshop in Brazil

The BioProLat project team visited the project region in Brazil from 14 to 17 June 2022.

The BioProLat project aims to develop environmentally friendly technologies for extracting cobalt and nickel from Brazilian laterites. In June 2022, researchers from the Brazilian Geological Service (CPRM and CETEM) and the German Federal Geological Survey (BGR) met at Brasília Airport and travelled from there to the Barro Alto rock complex in Goiás.

Afterwards, the consortium met up with the technical partner Anglo American Nickel to discuss the results to date. The following day, the partners visited the mine and the industrial complex in the project region and then returned to Rio de Janeiro for a project workshop, which was organised by CETEM. Together with the partners who were unable to travel to Brazil, the next steps of the project were discussed. The meeting ended with a tour of the CETEM facilities.
