International Partnerships for Sustainable Innovations

With the "CLIENT II - International Partnerships for Sustainable Innovations" funding initiative, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is promoting demand-oriented research collaborations with selected emerging and developing countries. The international joint projects are developing climate, energy, environmental and resource solutions that will help to address concrete challenges in the partner countries. With their innovative and sustainable solution approaches, each CLIENT II project impacts several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at once. With a total of up to 140 million euros, the development of technologies, products, services and system solutions is promoted in seven subject areas. These are then inspected on-site in practical tests. The cooperation between German and international partners from the academic and professional worlds enables solutions that are adapted to local conditions, making them marketable. This approach strengthens the competitive position of Germany and the participating partner countries. Globally, CLIENT II is making a direct contribution to the mitigation of environmental degradation, the restoration of already degraded environmental processes and the sustainable management of natural resources.

Locust-Tec: new DLR project video

The German Aerospace Center (DLR), project partner of the CLIENT II project Locust-Tec, reports in a current elaborately produced video about the contents of the project work.

EnaTex: Indonesian project partners travel to Germany

The EnaTex project aims to accompany the Indonesian textile industry on its way to a more sustainable production. The focus is on increasing energy efficiency and promoting the use of renewable energies, embedded in a holistic corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy. In June 2023, a delegation of Indonesian researchers from the Catholic University of Atma Jaya and the Politeknik STTT Bandung visited the German project partners in Mönchengladbach, Leonberg, Heidelberg, and Saarbrücken. Together, the project partners conducted working visits, workshops and networking meetings.

PROCEED: Impact of Decentralised Solar Systems on Overloaded Mini-grids in Tsumkwe, Namibia

The electricity demand in Namibia’s off-grid communities is continuing to rise, leaving the capacity of existing generators struggling to keep up. The PROCEED project is investigating the potential of decentralised solar systems to complement mini-grids. A first pilot plant has now been created at Tsumkwe secondary school.
