The focal area of water management covers technologies and concepts for water protection, wastewater treatment, drinking water supply as well as projects for the implementation of the "sponge cities" concept. The regional focus is on China and Vietnam (1st and 2nd deadlines), where both sides agreed to reorientate cooperation under the Chinese Mega Water Program for the treatment and monitoring of water pollution within the framework of the Scientific-Technological Cooperation (STC) with China (2016). For the 3rd deadline (31/5/2019), only projects in the priority regions of the Mega Water Program in Jing-Jin-Ji (Greater Beijing area) and the Taisee region could be submitted.
Research and development projects are funded in the areas of:
- Technologies and concepts for water protection
- Implementation of the "sponge cities" concept
- Efficient wastewater treatment and reuse as well as sewage sludge treatment and utilisation
- Industrial wastewater treatment for selected key industries and
- Drinking water supply and safety
